CARNICOPIA takes inspiration from the word “cornucopia”, a traditional symbol of abundance often seen in both Greek and Roman mythology.
Cornucopia comes from the latin “cornu” - meaning horn, and “copia” - meaning abundance.
The cornucopia was often depicted as a horn overflowing with produce including fruit, flowers, and nuts. There are many beautiful images of the horn of plenty, from classical times to the present day.
“Carni” is latin for meat, flesh, or the body. It can refer to the body, or in our case, the animal source which plays a key role in our range.
And so, the name CARNICOPIA represents our own symbol of abundance that gives a nod to and reconnects us with the carnivore, nose-to-tail lifestyle that has transformed the lives of so many.
The various figures in Greek mythology symbolise and represent values, characteristics, and strengths which align with products in the CARNICOPIA range. As an example, ZEUS is the face of our ALPHA capsules - designed to help men with vigour, vitality, and virility.
Aside from adding deeper meaning and a backstory to each product - we also think it looks cool!
Nick is a practising classical osteopath. When he began training at the British School of Osteopathy in 2000, he quickly became aware that the curriculum had moved away from some important osteopathic philosophies.
This led him on a journey via his amazing 96-year-old tutor, John Wernham. He began to understand how important food could be as a medicine when combined with skilful osteopathic adjustments.
Nick began to understand that the key to good health is having healthy factors in your life, from nutrition and movement to your environment. He now considers himself a ‘health detective’, on a mission to discover what can be put in place to help his patients move towards better health.
This goes against the grain of the “here is a pill for your symptoms” approach of modern medicine.
Nick has learnt about metabolic typing, and discovered he thrived when eating a diet high in protein and healthy fats. This has slowly led towards him eating less and less plant-based foods and more and more nutrient dense animal products.
He has also learnt the power of fasting and noticed since he cut out almost all plant-based foods, he has increased his range of movement and feels much more supple.
Nick acknowledges how modern palates have changed, with less access to the myriad of important nutrients provided by animal organ meats.
With this in mind, Nick - alongside his brother Alex - wanted to find a way to help people reintroduce these nutritional powerhouses into everyday life in a convenient and straightforward way.
Alex is Nick’s younger brother - 19 years younger in fact!
Since his teens, Alex displayed a natural entrepreneurial spirit and has always had a keen interest in keeping fit and being able to maximise performance and wellbeing through diet and supplementation.
After working in various sales roles, Alex spent nearly 10 years in the motor industry, eventually becoming Sales Manager for a prestigious international brand.
Meanwhile, Alex’s curiosity into the role nutrition and exercise plays in our overall health was heavily influenced by witnessing his late brother Deno battle with - and ultimately succumb to - multiple sclerosis in 2012.
It was the realisation of a long-term dream of Alex’s to team up with brother Nick in 2017 and launch their first health and wellbeing company, CBD One, which has gone on to become known for the highest quality products and operates with a genuine desire to help people achieve optimal health.
Alex is a qualified England Boxing coach and loves helping young boxers at his local amateur club achieve dreams of their own. He also has a keen interest in grappling in the form of jiu-jitsu and wrestling and has started to compete himself in the last 12 months - something he hopes his Greek-Cypriot grandfather would be proud of as a former professional wrestler!
In the last few years, Alex’s natural interest in nutrition - especially in relation to sports performance - has led him to appreciate how a nose-to-tail, animal-based diet offers key benefits which simply cannot be replicated in modern “meat-free” diets - which ironically are touted as being healthy but in fact, end up being the opposite.
Through CARNICOPIA, Alex once again teams up with brother Nick with the aim of bringing you natural health products designed to help you achieve the best version of yourself - every day.
